Spicy Tuna Tartare Tacos
Makes 6-8 tacos
Prep time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: no cooking here!
Ingredients
1 lb. sashimi-quality tuna fillet (some supermarkets offer frozen filets that can be used)
2 tsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 c. fresh lime juice
2 tsp. soy sauce (I find low-sodium works best)
1-2 chili peppers to taste, minced (I prefer jalapeño, but serrano is excellent if you like it really spicy)
1 ripe Haas avocado, peeled and cut into 1/4” cubes
1/3 c. loosely packed coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 small red onion, finely diced
6-8 crunchy taco shells (or, you can use soft tortillas if you prefer)
Directions
1. Cut the tuna into 1/4” pieces and place in a bowl.
2. Add everything except the avocado and stir to combine.
3. Add the avocado and gently stir to incorporate. Try to avoid smushing the avocado. :)
4. Spoon into the taco shells or tortillas and serve.
* If you prefer a tangier mixture, increase to 1/3 cup of fresh lime juice.
** If you prefer a less-spicy mixture, remove the seeds and white ribs of the chili pepper before cutting it.
